What diabetes means
Diabetes is a group of conditions in which blood glucose remains too high because the body does not produce enough insulin, does not use insulin effectively, or both. Diagnosis requires appropriate clinical testing—not symptoms alone.
Common warning signs
Increased thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight change, unusual fatigue, blurred vision, slow-healing wounds and recurrent infections can occur. Some people have no obvious symptoms.
Risk factors
Family history, excess body weight, low physical activity, age, previous gestational diabetes, high blood pressure and some medicines may raise risk. Risk is not destiny; screening and sustainable habits matter.
Daily foundations
Prioritise fibre-rich foods, balanced portions, regular movement, adequate sleep, medication adherence where prescribed and routine monitoring recommended by a clinician.
When to seek care
Urgent evaluation is appropriate for severe weakness, confusion, vomiting, deep or rapid breathing, fainting, severe dehydration or very high/low readings with symptoms.
